Several details should be taken into consideration when buying a computer monitor. Maybe this is not important to you, but it is important for those who search only for the best from their electronic devices; and here I am referring to the level of the black color that appears on the screen.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Other important elements that you have to take very seriously are: the aspect ratio, the brightness, contrast ratio, display ports, DVI, HDMI, the input lag, the ergonomic options, the resolution, the memory card readers, the USB ports, the audio, the viewing angle, the possibility of connecting the computer monitor to an HDTV and that’s about it. These details at which you have to be attentive are not only available on the LCD monitors, but also on the LED monitors.

Let’s present some information about the elements that I have just named. I have read an article on CNET.com, a guide that allows you to take the best decision and buy the perfect computer monitor for your computing needs. And that article inspired me to also write an article about the things that you have to take into consideration when buying a computer monitor. I will start with the aspect ratio and I am pretty sure that I will end this article with the aspect ratio element as well, just as I started this article, because there are many things to say about this topic. But don’t worry, we have a full week ahead of us and I will write about computer monitors every single day. The aspect ratio of a computer monitor is usually of 16:9, but we can encounter aspect ratios of 4:3. It is reported that this type of aspect ratio is encountered on tablet computers or smartphones or better said on portable devices that allow the users to surf the Internet. The aspect ratio of a mobile device does not provide a better performance in terms of navigating the Internet, nevertheless, the sites that are created taking into consideration this aspect ratio of the mobile devices are better seen by the exact mobile devices that have an aspect ratio of 4:3. I hope I have made myself clear with this.

But what does the aspect ratio mean? When you look at the dimensions of the tablet computer or the computer monitor that you want to buy, always look at the width and height. The proportion between those two create the aspect ratio, in other words the most common proportion between width and height is of 16:9. You have to divide these two numbers and see what is the result; at the same time divide the number of inches that represent the width by the number of inches that represent the height. You should be able to receive the same result. In the last years, there have been created many computer monitors that have an aspect ratio of 16:10. The 16:10 aspect ratio is encountered mostly on widescreen displays. The 16:9 aspect ratio is largely associated to the 1080 pixel resolution. The engineers desire to create the computer monitors similar to the TVs that can render images in high-definition.

A very good source of computer monitors is Amazon.com. You can order products from Amazon even if you live in Europe. But I am not here to talk about the Amazon site, but about the LCD computer monitors and the LCD technology.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

I have recently read an article on CNET.com that amazed me. But why did it do this? Because it explained so clearly the differences between various types of LCD computer monitors.

I have mentioned some of the differences in my previous articles as well. You can browse our archives in order to read them. Today I would like to refer to the backlight feature of the LCD and LED monitors, with a focus on LCD. I have already mentioned that LCD is an improved version of a screen that has its basis in cathode ray tube monitors or screens. I don’t know some of the people who use computers today still prefer the CRT monitors. The technologies are extremely different. The LCD technology uses liquid crystals in order to express what you actually see on the display. But what is the importance of the backlight? Well, those crystals that form the images and the colors that are seen on the display transmit information towards of the backlight of the computer as well, not only to the front of the computer screen.

The monitor has built in electrodes, which make the crystals to light up or to turn their light off, if I can express in this way. Thus, the pixels will receive their appropriate color, creating on the screen the images that you’re supposed to see. The difference between LED and LCD is given by the fact that the LED monitors have a different type of backlight. The monitors that were released on market in the last years use cold cathode fluorescent tubes, other known as CCFL, instead of backlight. I mean not instead of backlight, but as backlight. The LED computer monitors use 3 types of technologies, the exact number of technologies used by the LCD monitors. It is written that you need to understand how these technologies work before understanding how the LED computer monitor actually works. Seems pretty logical right? The LED backlight versions are: EL-WLED, RGB LED, WLED. We will discuss about the LED backlights in a future article dedicated to the LED computer monitors. Now I would like to mention the LCD panels that are available on market right now, in case you haven’t read my previous articles.

You can select what LCD panel is right for yourself, if you take into consideration several details. First of all the panels are: TN, VA and IPS. I will not mention what every technology does, because you can find all the information that you need on our site. I will only mention that if you want a cheap computer monitor, you should choose the TN version, if you want the deeper black, choose VA, if you are searching for the greatest color reproduction, definitely get an IPS computer monitor.

Those who want to buy white computer monitors should find out that the color of the electronic device that they buy is not in relation with the performance offered by that device. Nevertheless, if you want to buy white computer monitors that are created using the LCD or LED technology, you should enter Amazon or BestBuy.com.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

There you can find plenty of computer monitors and if you don’t find the computer monitor that you dream of, you can always buy a skin and change it every week or every month, depending on your mood.

I have started in one of my previous articles to talk about the LCD computer monitors and about their versions. I have discussed about the TN monitors, about the fact that they are the cheapest LCD monitors and at the same time about the VA monitors, which are a bit more expensive, but which have several advantages, that you cannot find on a TN monitor. Today, I would like to discuss about the IPS monitors. Obviously, because I have let them to the end, they are the most expensive ones. Nevertheless, the engineers try to reduce the price and it was reported that an IPS panel was recently released, costing only $300 for a 22 inch model. Now we are in August 2011 and the monitor of which I am talking about was recently released. We are not mentioned what is its manufacturer. The IPS monitors have the best viewing angles of all 3 categories that I have named until now. The accuracy of the colors provided by these computer monitors is amazing, but they have some problems: the VA monitors provide a blacker black, if I can say this and at the same time the VA monitors are better in terms of response time and input lag.

Now let’s speak about the backlight that is present in the computer monitors today. You know that if you work at night, if you do not have a backlight computer monitor or a backlight laptop, you will have to turn on the light in the room, otherwise you will not be able to work. Luckily for you, the engineers create more and more backlight products; the difference is made by their prices. You can tell if a computer monitor uses a backlight or not, only by looking at its price. If you think that LCD is very far away from LED or vice versa, you are wrong. They are not mutually exclusive. You know that LCD stands for liquid crystal display. These displays have their roots in the CRT monitors. CRT stands for cathode ray tube. But LED monitors are in fact LCD monitors, because they are based on liquid crystals. I do not want to start a new discussion about LED and LCD, because I have plenty of time to do this in a future article. Until then, I invite you to browse our archives and stay connected to this site, for more interesting information is about to come.

You know that in the past, the computer monitors used the technology that was named CRT. Well, right now they use many other types of technologies that help the engineers to reduce the amount of energy consumed by these computer monitors and at the same time to provide better images.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

One of these technologies, which at the same time is one of the most popular at this hour (we are in August 2011) is the LCD technology

The difference between the CRT monitors and the LCD monitors is the fact that the second version of monitors are much thinner and brighter. Not only brighter in terms of light but also in terms of intelligence. They actually “know” when to reduce the hue, the saturation are the brightness of the monitor in order to consume less power. According to CNET.com, there are 3 main panel technologies used by the LCD monitors, and here we are talking about the twisted nematic panel technology, vertical alignment and in plane switching. Most likely you have heard of IPS. Now you know what IPS stands for: in plane switching. But the most popular computer monitors use of the twisted nematic technology. They use this technology not because this is the best, but because this is the cheapest. With a bit of luck, the engineers manage to create a computer monitor that uses this type of technology, monitor that will be sold for $300. So now you have found out another interesting thing: that the computer monitors that cost $300 or less are based on the TN technology. Nevertheless, this technology has many advantages and we can name the fastness in use and the price. When I said fastness, I referred to the fact that the response time is usually of 2 ms. But like any other thing that has advantages, the TN technology have disadvantages as well: the narrow viewing angles are a major shortcoming for those who are used to move from one location to another in the room and expect to see the same image (well, you will not get this from a TM computer monitor), the brightness which is not that bright and the color reproduction, which according to CNET.com is “inaccurate”.

The next models that I have named are the VA monitors. The a stands for vertical alignment. I am sure that you have heard of S-PVA panels most than you have heard the VA monitors. This is why the VA monitors are better known as S-PVA monitors. The good thing about these once is the viewing angle, which is much improved, when compared to the TN monitors. If we compare the two technologies, that they say that this VA technology is also better at rendering colors on the screen and at the same time the VA monitors have a much higher brightness than the previous computer monitors. But they have disadvantages as well. Let’s name them. When compared to the same previous computer monitors, they provide a black that is not that black, plus the response time and the input lag are not very fast. And the same time, they cost more: from $400-$800 usually, the price being dependent on the screen size.

Where else can you find an LCD monitor than on the largest site with a great amount of products, Amazon? I don’t know if you can buy from a niddle to an airplane, but I know that on Amazon, you can find almost anything that you want. The Toshiba 14 inch USB portable monitor is a product that received 5 stars on the Amazon site and this says something.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

You know that usually the people, when they are satisfied with something, they tend to forget they are satisfied and they do not present their satisfaction to the rest of the potential buyers who are on Amazon, looking for bargains. But when it comes to presenting a negative aspect of a product, we are the first that present the problem. How to let this to pass without us to discuss about the problem? No, under any circumstances. We have to discuss and make a fool out of the company that sells the product.

If you happen to create a product, let’s say, a computer monitor that is not that excellent in terms of the quality of the images, the people who will buy the monitor will make sure that all of those who will have the intention of buying the same product, will not do this step, simply because he was unsatisfied. But if he is satisfied, he usually “forgets” to say something good about the product. If you will ever buy from Amazon, please make a review of the product. It does not matter if the product is good or bad. After you solve the possible problem, you have to say on Amazon that the problem was solved and you are now satisfied with your new product. Regarding the Toshiba 14 inch LCD monitor, I don’t have much too say. You can imagine for yourself that being a Toshiba product, is among the best LCD monitors ever created. Nevertheless, I will present certain technical characteristics of the product, and I appologize from those who are not that used to these details, but I have to present the specs as well.

Let’s get started: only 2.8 lbs for a sleek and durable monitor, the HD resolution provided by the monitor is of 1366×768 pixels, it is powered via an USB, the monitor can be powered as well by an AC adapter, but this is sold separately, there is no HDMI video cable connection, because you use only the USB. At the screen size had by this monitor, you can travel with it anywhere in the world. Nevertheless, if you want true portability, you will get a notebook or better, a tablet.

Since their birth, computers have evolved in numerous ways. For example, you should try looking at the first PCs, or even at the computers of the year 2001. I think you will see quite a difference. Mainly because technology for computer hardware and peripheral devices has evolved. Not more than ten years ago most of the people still used CRTs. I remember when I saw a 21 inch CRT monitor for the first time. It looked huge and it seemed to have such a great image quality.<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

Nowadays CRTs are a thing of the past. And good riddance: they were heavy to carry around. Not that you should always carry a computer monitor with you at all times, but it’s certainly easier to move from one room to another.

Speaking of big monitors, I stumbled upon a nice one from Lenovo just the other day; namely, the ThinkVision L2440P LCD monitor. The big advantage in LCDs is that they can have a really wide display without occupying too much space. This particular monitor is 24” wide and has a native resolution of 1900 by 1200 pixels. A nice touch is that it has two signal input ports: you have both DVI digital and VGA. If you want to plug-in from a laptop’s HDMI port you can always use a DVI/HDMI adapter. One thing you should look for when buying a monitor is the contrast ratio. Basically, this is the difference that appears in the intensity of light between the darkest black of the monitor and the brightest white. The higher the ratio is, the better the monitor is, in my opinion. This monitor has a decent contrast ratio of 1000:1. Rumors say that you always have to be careful and a little bit skeptical in this area, because manufacturers often lie a little bit about these specifications, making them look better.

Another thing that’s worth considering when buying yourself a new laptop is the response time. The response time simply specifies the time in which a pixel changes from darkest to brightest. Gamers will always feel that they need something with a super human response time. In this aspect, less is better. A lower response time means faster and smoother image display.

Image brightness also plays an important role when buying a monitor. This time the bigger value is the winner: the monitor brightness, measured in candelas per square meter, or cd/m2. There are lots of opinions here. Some say that the 300cd/m2 of this laptop is not enough, while there are opinions that choose not to bach monitors and make them feel right at home.

So that’s it. My advice is that you trey to get outside, buy yourself a nice Lenovo L2440p, connect it to your computer/laptop and read this article on a decent monitor. If you haven’t already read, of course.

Do you remember the time when people used to buy 12 inch computer monitors?<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

Well I don’t. At first when the LCD type of monitors appeared everybody was crazy about them, not that now the craziness has disappeared, but people loved these new gadgets which replaced their bulky monitors which used to take a lot of space and make your eyes sore from radiation.

Even though many of you choose to buy a computer monitor with a lot of inches, I want to tell you that today there are people who buy these tiny gadgets, like a 12 inch monitor, to use them at their office or even in their home. 12 inch displays have came a long way since they first appeared; and when I say this I refer to design, features, imbedded technology and others.

I want to present you a 12 inch display featuring touch screen capacities. This GB-E30 12 inch computer monitor can be used with your surveillance cameras, with your computer or as a tablet. The monitor comes with an adjustable stand so you can put it on your wall, on your desk or use it as a tablet.

The GB-E30 touch screen monitor features a resolution of 800 x 600, the tilt adjustment angle is of 360 degrees left-right on horizontal and 90 degrees up-down vertically. The viewing angle is of 360/90 (Horizontal/Vertical). So, considering these angles you will have a decent overall view; think of the fact that this is a 12 inch monitor and even if you want you can’t have a perfect view from the corner of the room.

Many users do not choose a 12 inch monitor for their home and this is because it is too small and very uncomfortable when it comes to seeing a movie or even playing a game. When you write or read texts is not that awesome both because the image is too small and it can be a little bit disturbing.

As inputs the GB-E30 touch screen monitor has: a DC12 power cable, a VGA, a USB, a 3.5mm L/R Jack Plug-In and an S-Video – RCA. So, you can use it however you want. As I said the greatest thing about this monitor is the fact that you can make it into a tablet, and I think that this is the main reason why you would buy such a gadget for your home.

The cool feature of this gadget is its touch screen capacities which unfortunately work only with computers. The cost of such a gadget is somewhere about $ 344.00 and this price is available only for Australia.

Why should you get an LCD monitor and not a monitor based on the plasma technology? What are the advantages of using such monitor and how can this affects the environment? Well, if I am allowed to start by answering the second question, I would say that there is a big difference between the LCD and the plasma monitors, because the LCD ones consume a lot less energy than the plasma monitors.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

I don’t know anything about the radiations or the heat that these two types of monitor issue, but I don’t think that this is a problem. Anyway, we live in a world, where almost anything is dangerous for our health. A radiation in addition or not I guess that won’t harm too much our already used with this organisms. But if we can save the planet, by reducing out energy consumption, why not do this?

I don’t know if the people who have chosen the LCD as being better and more popular than plasma, thought of this environmental aspect. I have a hunch that they have done this because they have lower energy bills now. The plasma energy consumption is not only translated into great resources consumer, but also higher payments for energy, which are not that good, in the economic conditions in which we live nowadays. The LCD monitors offer sharp images and even if some say that they are not comparable to the images provided by a plasma, they are great for the eyes, they are created so that the images might be perceivable by the human eye. There are numerous computer users who have apreferred using LCD monitors for this reason and for other great advantages that they bring. Who cares about the monitors which let us see images that clear that our eye is not even capable of seeing them? We just want to see clear and sharp images and colors. Well, the LCD TVs and monitors can offer this. The LCD monitors, because the TVs also have monitors, they are named screens or displays in that case, are created of tiny particles, which are named pixels. These are the picture elements, containing liquid crystal molecules.

LCD monitors are highly used these days because many of the models that have appeared in the last few years are characterized by great specifications that make them well performing enablign those using them to have a great gaming and working experience whenever they use them.

If you are looking for a flat TV, plasma or LCD, then you have reached the right place. In this article we will cover frequently asked questions about new models of televisions, we will make a comparison between Plasma TVs vs. LCD TVs.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Basic information about the flat screen TVs
Flat-screen TVs are rendering vivid, bright and extremely clear colors, be it LCD TVs or Plasma TVs. Many models measure just 10 inches thick or less, which opens a wide range of options regarding the placement of television. Mounted on the wall, a flat screen TV becomes part of the room and not part of the furniture. Thanks to the development of flat panel TVs segment into recent years, they have almost completely replaced cathode ray tube TVs. Flat Screen TVs continue to become bigger and better, but the best news is that it becomes even cheaper. The digital technology available for these TVs has many benefits but also few disadvantages.

Plasma TV screens are using a phosphor coating like that used for TVs with tube, so that, it renders natural colors that we are already used to see in tube models. Plasmas have better contrast and colors are superior to level of black, offering wider viewing angles. Plasma televisions offer superior picture quality on a TV that users most often describe it as “cinematic”. A Plasma TV is a good choice if:
-You want rich, warm and strong black colors;
-You watch television from any angle, regardless of the position from the room
-Do not play many video games that contain static images for more than a few hours per use
-The room where you want to place your TV does not have much ambient light, or you can reduce the light intensity

If you are looking for a smaller screen TV of 32″ or less, then LCD is the only viable option. An LCD TV looks great into any kitchen or other room with powerful brightness. LCD displays are more resistant to exposure to sunlight or light bulbs and are extremely bright, even brighter than plasma TVs. LCD is also one of the most resistant types of displays. Total immunity from the burn-in of the screen makes the LCD the ideal choice where frequent use includes using it for your computer and video games. If you leave the TV on for several hours on a sports or news station containing Crawl (Bar News), an LCD screen is a safer choice.

An LCD TV is a good choice if:
-You are watching many TV shows or you use the screen for video games with static images on the screen for long periods, for several days.
-You are watching much content in HD or Full HD, BluRay Disc, or HD movies on your PC.
-The room where you place the TV is quite luminous, or you use the TV especially during the day
-1080p LCD TVs are more than similar models of plasma TVs – it is the highest resolution currently available with which you can have a clear and detailed image.
-LCD TVs are usually more economical in terms of energy consumption than Plasma TVs models of the same size

Horizon is a brand of Asesoft that has developed LCD monitors since 2002. Currently, Horizon offers customers a wide range of LCD monitors with between 15 and 24 inches diagonals and with a response time on some models of only 4ms. After the resounding success that it had with the 2206SW model, Horizon decided to release a new monitor, with a diagonal of 24″ which, from specifications, promises to become a new best buy in the category to which it belongs.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

As with the younger brother, 2206SW, Horizon 2408SW comes in a carton box, equipped with a handle to facilitate the transport. In the box we find a DVI cable, VGA cable, power cable, user manual, a remote control and an audio cable. The monitor does not come with any CD drivers; it is “Plug and Play”. The base of the monitor consists from two parts: the supporting leg, and lower (the basis) on which the monitor stands. The quality of materials is good for a monitor which is inside the range of entry-level 24” LCD monitors.

The material used for the frame construction is plastic, and is painted in matte black. At the bottom there is a rectangular area in relief with a glossy finish. The leg is solid, painted in black and has a pivot. Therefore, the monitor can rotate a lot, and in many angles and directions. The monitor can be lifted approximately 30 cm. The monitor can be rotated 90°, in portrait mode. The image is not adjusting automatically, according to the rotation of the monitor, this being performed manually from the video card control panel. The monitor can tilt backwards about 28 degrees, and in front about 3 degrees. The remote control looks modern and shows small sizes. It works very well even at a distance of 3.5 meters of the monitor. The monitor has a software that can play movies, music, pictures and even games that are placed on memory cards, or on the external HDD or on Stick, connected via the USB connector. These facilities can be accessed using the remote control. Basically, this monitor, connected to an external TV tuner can be used without problems as a TV with player functions. The panel used is TN (Twisted Nematic), LG, Grade A +. By default, the monitor is set at 60% contrast and a brightness of 80%.The colors are slightly oversaturated, but this small disadvantage can be repaired by manual adjustment of color. The monitor is well calibrated from the factory, when it comes to color. With this computer monitor, no fading or traces you will find on the screen!

Viewing angles are decent horizontally but poor vertically, which is typical to any TN panel. However, seen from top to bottom this monitor performs better than other TN panel monitors. The OSD provides a sufficient number of settings, most notable among them being the adjustment of contrast, brightness and color. Also in the OSD we can see the resolution and image refresh rate, we can set the position of OSD on the screen, we can choose the language and the source from where the video signal is received. Horizon succeeded to make a really good monitor, as design, and performance. Horizon 2408SW is an LCD Computer Monitor that is worth trying! With this computer monitor, no fading or traces will you find on the screen!
