Everyone uses a computer these days, and in this way, it is very important to know as much as possible about how a computer works and what types of accessories are needed to improve the way in which our PC functions. Computer monitors are a very important component within our PCs and we always want to find out about all the innovative features that can make our own monitor better. Also, we are interested nowadays on possible better alternatives for our computer monitors when we think about the possibility of changing it with a better one.

It is very important to receive answers for all of our questions related to our computer monitors and some that could help us make a better choice regarding our future possible acquisitions. The monitor is the most used device within a computer. It is very important because it has the role of providing the necessary feedback by displaying texts and images while we are doing our daily work activities, while we are watching movies, or while we are talking to our friends and sharing different types of information. The two basic types of computer monitors known nowadays are the Cathode Ray Tube type and the Liquid Crystal Display type. Both of these present certain advantages and disadvantages regarding their functions and features, but what is important for us is to be aware of which of these two types might be the best choice for us. This is because, although it is important to receive information from those who have used one or another type of display, we cannot base our decision only upon their opinion. We must become aware that we need our own type of computer monitor that might reach our choices and needs in doing our daily activities in the best way.

So as to become able to make the better choice when buying a new computer component  we must find out what certain features related to a computer monitor mean and in this way decide whether one model or another offers us everything that we need. The first of the important features regarding a display is the resolution. It is important to know that this term refers to pixels, and that is the number of specific dots of color included within a monitor. The resolution varies from one type of monitor to another, and also according to different sizes in which the same type of computer monitor can be reached on the market. This is important because monitor sizes have changed a lot in the last few years and the display resolutions have, in this way, passed through many changes as well. There are many types of standard displays and resolutions known. Some examples of known resolutions for monitors nowadays would be would be: 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 2048x1536 and the 1920x1200 type of resolution. Certainly, these are few examples among the many available types of resolutions known to be available for the computer monitors.

Another important aspect related to the way in which a computer monitor can be measured and analyzed is the aspect ratio. In the past, the most well known type of ratio aspect among computers and television displays was that of 4: 3. Nowadays, things have changed a lot, and also the types of aspect ratios included within computer displays have changed. More common these days is the aspect ratio of 16: 9, for the well known LCD computer monitors. This ratio is very useful for the use of LCD screens as for watching movies and playing games. In the past, the image quality was not so good when watching a DVD movie, but nowadays, we have the possibility to watch it within better conditions, by being offered a great image quality within our computer monitors.

The way in which screens are usually measured differs from on type of computer to another, especially from the Cathode Ray Tube type of PC and the Liquid Crystal Display type. The Cathode Ray Tube monitors are usually measured diagonally, by using the edges of the monitor casing as important refers. In this way, the computer's cases are included within this type of measurement. On the other hand, in the case of the Liquid Crystal Display type of computer monitors the measurement of the screen is made diagonally but only considering the inside of that edge. In this way, the measurement of these types of computer displays does not include, as above, the monitor casing. This is an important reason why a certain size of Cathode Ray Tube type of monitor is comparable to another size of Liquid Crystal Display type.

Among the most familiar screen sizes nowadays are known to be the 15, 17, 19 and 24 inch types. The size of a computer monitor is a very important factor that affects one way or another, the computer's display resolution. So as to be able to visualize certain texts or images on our computer monitor, firstly the PC has to send a certain type of signal to the monitor. Without this signal being established we would not be able to see anything on our computer screen.  An important aspect related to the type of signal being established between the computer and its screen is the way in which this signal appears, be it in an analog format or a digital one. Nowadays, there is more fashionable for the computers to function in a digital type of world. In this way, all of the newer types of computer monitors are characterized by digital types of signals. Certainly, the digital data is being converted by the computer and the so-called video adapters into analog format so as for the screen to be able to show it.  This is because the VGA type of connector does not support the use and the functions of the digital computer monitors. In this respect, nowadays a new possibility has been created. That is represented by the creation of a digital video type of interface who can enable the use of digital types of displays.

It is very important to know as much as possible about our computer monitors so as to be able to work properly with our PCs, and also to be able to know what to choose for ourselves when we need to buy a new computer component.
